Help for people with cancer in Illinois
Free
Illinois, is lucky to have the most extensive "patient navigator" services in the nation, offered by the American Cancer Society.
These full-time staff are located at the top cancer centers in the state and ready to assist cancer patients with a wide variety of concerns.
That includes helping patients understand their diagnosis and treatment plans, deal with insurance questions, find financial assistance, connect with community resources, and get transportation to and from medical appointments.
Navigators are located at Stroger Hospital, Rush University Medical Center, Loyola University Medical Center, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, University of Chicago Medical Center, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, and Illinois CancerCare in Peoria.
Patients can walk in and ask for help on the spot or call the American Cancer Society’s 24 hour hotline, 1-800-ACS-2345, for a referral.
For more information on programs available through the American Cancer Society’s Illinois division, call( 312) 372-0471.
