Publix Super Markets is offering seven popular antibiotics free for up to a 14-day supply. All that is required of the customer is a doctor's prescription. There is no limit to the number of prescriptions that customers may fill for free, Publix said in a release.
The antibiotics being offered are Amoxicillin, Cephalexin, Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim, Ciprofloxacin, Penicillin, Ampicillin and Erythromycin. These drugs account for almost 50 percent of the generic, pediatric prescriptions filled at Publix, the grocery chain said.
The free antibiotics are offered to customers regardless of their prescription insurance provider.
Publix is privately owned and operated by its 143,000 employees. It recorded $21.7 billion in sales last year. Currently Publix has 907 stores in five Southern states including Florida.
